On October 5th, WWE hosted their annual Bad Blood PLE. Overall, the event had its highlights and lowlights with an incredible return from WWE legend Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson to likely set up a Survivor: War Games storyline.

The night started off with a bang, as Drew McIntyre and CM Punk clashed in the third installment of their trilogy. After gruesome attacks that left both wrestlers bloodied, CM Punk was announced the winner. After the match, CM Punk was left using an oxygen tank and demanded someone “call my wife” to end this personal and heated feud. According to most pundits, this was the best match of the night and is likely the best match of the three during the Punk/McIntyre saga. It remains to be seen where both wrestler’s storylines go from here. My prediction is that these two will once again meet in the ring, but with the added flavor of being a triple threat match with Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship.

After two fairly forgettable matches (Bayley v. Nia Jax and Finn Balor v. Damian Priest), Triple H made an appearance to announce that the upcoming Crown Jewel event will feature a bout between both world champions (male and female) where the winners will be crowned the WWE Crown Jewel Champion. While the title belt is incredibly flashy, I personally do not see the appeal. The idea of a championship is a bit ridiculous, but the match itself will likely be entertaining. Watching Cody Rhodes and Gunther, both technically sound competitors, will surely be a spectacle. Gunther also made an appearance during the segment, immediately targeting Goldberg who was in attendance.

During a Monday Night Raw segment, Gunther told Bret “The Hitman” Hart that his favorite wrestler was Goldberg. While many speculated if this was just to get under the legend’s skin, Gunther confirmed that much when he told Goldberg that he could never like a wrestler with his lack of skill. This is clearly the WWE wanting Gunther to gain heat by insulting legends and will likely not be the last time.

In the second Judgement Day match of the night, the women of the feud battled while “Dirty” Dom Mysterio was being dangled from a cage. While the match itself was lackluster, it did bring Raquel Rodriguez back into the fold and allows both Rhea and Liv to move on from this angle. That said, this plot line is far from over and I predict a WrestleMania bout between them to settle the score once and for all.

This brings us to our final match of the night, where Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes joined forces to take on the Bloodline members Solo Sikoa and Jacob Fatu. While the match was solid and had good moments, including Jimmy Uso’s long awaited return, it is the return that happened after the match that left everyone in awe. After Roman secured the pinfall and shook Cody’s hand, The Rock’s music hit. Both competitors looked stunned as they witnessed The Rock enter the arena only to not speak a word. The Rock simply made a hand gesture signaling “one, two, three” followed by a throat-slashing sign. This beckons the question, who is The Rock signaling to? It is likely that The Rock sees himself at the Head of the Table and is probably disappointed with Solo’s performances. Sometimes, you have to get the job done yourself.
